Scholarship of the month: Google scholarships for STEM students

Google’s package of scholarships for students wishing to study computer science or related fields will open for applications at the end of March

    Google’s suite of scholarships for students wishing to study technology and computer science will be open for applications from 26 March 2024. 

    There are seven different scholarships in total, each offering students funding to continue their studies in computer science. The scholarships include:

    Generation Google Scholarship (APAC) – This scholarship is for women studying computer science, supporting them to become leaders in their field. Selected students will receive $2,500 for the 2024-25 academic year. Eligible students must be already enrolled in a computer science or technology course at a recognised university in the Asia-Pacific and be intending to continue their studies in the academic year 2024-25. The deadline for applications is 23 April 2024. 

    Google Lime Scholarship – The Google Lime Scholarship is for students with disabilities wanting to continue their education in computer science. Selected students will receive $10,000 (for those studying in the US) or C$5,000 (for those studying in Canada) for the 2024-25 school year. Students will be required to complete an online application before the deadline of 21 April 2024. 

    Generation Google Scholarship (North America) – Students who are currently studying computer science and technology in North America are eligible to apply for this scholarship for the next academic year. Successful students will receive $10,000 (for those studying in the US) or C$5,000 (for those studying in Canada) for the 2024-25 school year. The application includes two essay questions. Applications must be received before 23 April 2024. 

    Generation Google Scholarship (EMEA) – This award is for women continuing their studies in computer science or a related subject at a university in Europe, Middle East or Africa in the academic year 2024-25. Selected students will receive a €7,000 award (or local equivalent). The deadline for applications is 23 April 2024. 

    Google Student Veterans of America Scholarship – The scholarship provides assistance to student veterans who are pursuing university degrees in the field of computer science in the US. Selected students will receive $10,000 for the 2024-25 school year. Students must provide documents such as a DD-214 and transcript, as well as an academic transcript and responses to short essay questions. Applications must be received by 23 April 2024. This scholarship was created in partnership with the Student Veterans of America. 

    Google Europe Student with Disabilities Scholarship – In partnership with EmployAbility, this award supports students with disabilities to pursue their education in computer science or related fields. Selected students will receive a €7,000 award (or local equivalent) for the 2024-25 academic year. Students must send off their application including academic transcripts, a reference letter and answers to essay questions by 23 April 2024. 

    Generation Google Scholarship: for women in computer science in Ireland – This scholarship was established to help women computer scientists continue their education in their chosen field. Selected students will receive a €5,000 award for two consecutive years of their undergraduate studies. To be eligible, students must be enrolled at a university in Ireland for the next two academic years and have completed their application by 23 April 2024.
