The Imagine Fellows Programme, co-founded in October 2021 by Adrien Nussenbaum, an HEC Paris graduate and the co-founder and joint-CEO of Mirakl, is all about giving a helping hand to students from places hit hard by conflict.

It aims to boost and support young talents who’ve felt the impact of war so they can grow into future leaders promoting peace, tolerance, diversity, inclusivity and unity within their communities. The Imagine Fellows Programme is open to candidates applying for any of HEC Paris’ master’s programmes, with a special welcome for applicants from regions torn apart by war, such as Afghanistan, Syria and Ukraine.

It’s mainly targeting outstanding individuals from countries or areas deeply affected by war and armed conflict.

Those who become Imagine Fellows can get into any of HEC Paris master’s programmes. The scholarship covers a wide range of academic subjects, making sure that talented people from various fields can make the most of this opportunity.

“I think the HEC Imagine Fellowship was a beacon of hope in a time of despair, not only for me, but also for my fellows from Syria and Ukraine whose lives were ravaged by war. The scholarship is one of its kind, breaking the barriers for deserving students who possess the capability and determination to excel at HEC, but are unable to afford or access such a prestigious institution due to the adverse circumstances in their home countries, offering a transformative educational experience and empowering the fellows to contribute positively to their societies,” says Behishta Nazir.

“The journey to HEC Paris was associated with exceptional challenges and obstacles, given the numerous barriers and problems in our situations and home countries. However, the admissions team was very supportive throughout the process. Their commitment to inclusivity and diversity made it possible for fellows like me, a woman coming from Afghanistan to study at HEC, to be part of a journey where we can thrive and make an impact.”

If awarded the scholarship, students can receive coverage of up to 100 per cent of their tuition fees and living expenses, which eases the financial burden and enables them to concentrate on their studies.

Apart from academic achievements, applicants will need to articulate their motivations and demonstrate a strong commitment to promoting peace, fostering intercultural understanding and supporting peaceful initiatives.

The selection of scholarship recipients places a high priority on their dedication to peace, cross-cultural understanding and conflict resolution. After an initial screening process, shortlisted candidates are invited for an interview, with the final results communicated to the selected students shortly afterwards.

The ongoing recruitment process for the 2023-24 academic year has already resulted in the selection of deserving students, highlighting the programme’s success in making a difference to the lives of individuals affected by war.
