Significant Funding Opportunities: We Support groundbreaking, innovative, and sustainable Research

Driven by its commitment to generating knowledge and producing high-impact research, the University of Sharjah (UOS) is substantially increasing and diversifying funding resources for its researchers

Over the last nine years or so, the UOS managed to push internal funding to far-reaching limits. It has also managed to attract significant external funds that have led to high-quality and impactful research across a large spectrum of disciplines in the fields of medicine, engineering, sciences, humanities, and social sciences. Internal funding includes seed research grants provided to newly appointed faculty members, competitive grants offered to researchers on a competitive basis, collaborative grants jointly funded by the University and external organizations, targeted research grants provided to researchers in research centers, research laboratories and research groups on a competitive basis, students research grants given to serious students’ research proposals, as well as multidisciplinary research grants offered to researchers conducting interdisciplinary projects, summer stay grants, summer visits grants, research groups grants, and international students grants.

Thanks to its outstanding partnerships with local and international organizations, the UOS also managed to attract substantial funds for research projects targeting priority areas in the above-mentioned disciplinary areas. Examples of local and international funding institutions include but are not limited to: Al Jalila Foundation, Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences, Boehringer Ingelheim, Terry Fox Foundation, Skoltech, Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences, Sandooq Al Watan, Dubai Foundation for Women and Children, General Civil Aviation Authority Al Jalila Foundation, etc.

The management of internal and external grants is assigned to the Research Funding Department (RFD), which was created by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Studies (OVRGS) to support UOS researchers and facilitate the process of funding from the pre-award stage to the post-award and closing stage. The RFD has put in place the research project management system (RPMS) which was developed in collaboration with IT department to manage the allocated research awards. This RPMS system will help the UOS researchers to manage research cycle starting from submission phase to research project clearance process
